The places that inspire us
Two Ontario butterfly conservatories that help people of every age fall in love with butterflies. We are not partnered with them. We just admire their work, and we think you should visit.

Worth a visit
Two butterfly conservatories we love
Both let you stand among living butterflies, and both teach visitors how to help them. Plan a trip, then come back and explore the data stories.

Cambridge, Ontario
Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory
A warm indoor rainforest in Waterloo Region, open all year. Thousands of tropical butterflies fly free among waterfalls, ponds and tropical plants, so you can see them up close even in the middle of winter.
- Butterflies fly free all around you, in every season
- Field trips, summer camps and outreach programs for schools
- A pollinator garden and wildflower meadow outside in the warmer months
- It has hosted fall monarch tagging days with Monarch Watch

Niagara Falls, Ontario
Niagara Parks Butterfly Conservatory
A glass conservatory in the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens, open since 1996. More than 2,000 butterflies fly among tropical plants and a waterfall, and an emergence window lets you watch new butterflies leave their chrysalises.
- Majestic Monarchs: free tagging and release demonstrations during the fall migration, for more than 30 years
- About 180 metres of paths wind through the conservatory
- A teaching home for the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture
